The Language Center offers two language programs for people of the following programs:

  • ERASMUS+ -students
  • Students of international partner universities
  • Programstudents, e.g. T.I.M.E., UNITECH, Fulbright scholar, etc.

Please consult the International Office in order to clarify whether you belong to one of the groups eligible for participation.

1. Course in the program DEUTSCHinternational

In preparation for your stay in Aachen, you can refresh and broaden your German in a course belonging to the program DEUTSCHinternational, a 3-week intensive program that takes place in September. Students have to sit a compulsory placement test in order to determine their exact level of knowledge. Even if you hold language certificates issued by other institutes, participation in a placement test at the Language Center is mandatory.

In order to apply please register with the International Office first. This should be done no later than September 1st to make sure you receive your RWTH User ID (TIM) in time. More information concerning the registration process for the program DEUTSCHinternational can be found on the website of the International Office. Please go to Dates & Deadlines for the dates of the courses and the placement test.

Erasmus students arriving in October have to write a placement test and can then register for semester courses. Please note that both the placement tests and course registration can only be done with a valid RWTH User ID (TIM).

2. Semester Courses

During your stay and after the DEUTSCHinternational course, you are invited to continue your German courses during the semester. Further information can be found at Semester Courses. Having absolved the DEUTSCHinternational course in September, you are placed automatically for the next level suited to your needs.
