With the start of the winter semester 2021/2022, the course designations at the Language Center of RWTH Aachen University will change.

The old designations "GK" for basic course, "MK" for intermediate course and "OK" for advanced course will be dropped.

Instead, the course designations directly reflect the respective level of the Common European Framework of Reference, e.g. Chinese A1 or French B1. Parallel courses are, as before, indicated by small letters, e.g. Italian A1.a, Italian A1.b, etc.

Since the Language Center's registration system only offers a choice of courses that correspond to the individual student's profeciency, it is not possible to apply to the wrong level and the change should not create any inconveniences for our participants.

For the subject areas Modern Languages and English the changes look as follows:
